Stay at Les Sources des Caudalie

Surrounded by the Grand Cru vineyards of Château Smith haut Lafitte, Les Sources de Caudalie has been welcoming guests since 1999. Located between vineyards and forests, just 20 minutes from Bordeaux’s city center, the Palace of the Vineyards offers unique experiences thanks to the two-Michelin-starred restaurant La Grand’Vigne , the bistro-style La Table du Lavoir, the wine bar ROUGE and the Caudalie Spa. You will also discover a vegetable garden, outdoor pool, indoor pool, and Jacuzzi overlooking a peaceful lake.

I’ve included information about activities at the hotel, and recommended excursions. There are both indoor and outdoor pools, as well as a tennis court. Julian is available for private tennis lessons! The hotel made the following recommendations for excursions:

Les Sources de Caudalie is located around 4 wine regions, described below:

  • Pessac Léognan : located around the hotel. This wine area is known for producing stunning, dry white Bordeaux wines, as well as red Bordeaux wine. Pessac Léognan is thought to be the area where the ancient Romans first planted vines in Bordeaux.
  • Sauternes : located about 30 minutes away from the hotel, famous for its sweet white wine. By the end of the 18th century, Sauternes’ reputation was internationally famous. One of the fans? President George Washington, who ordered thirty bottles after tasting Château d’Yquem.
  • Saint-Émilion : located 1 hour away from the hotel, east of Bordeaux, on the right bank. Saint-Émilion wines are predominantly made from Merlot and Cabernet Franc. Saint-Émilion is the first vineyard listed by UNESCO. A world first!
  • Médoc : located about 1 hour and a half away from the hotel, north of Bordeaux, on the left bank. The Médoc is one of the most famous red wine area in the world, home to many of the greatest and most renowned names of Bordeaux.

As each wine region is located far away in different direction from Les Sources de Caudalie, we recommend Mrs. and Mr. Shaw to visit only one wine region per day to avoid too much driving.

In addition to the Pessac Léognan wine appellation, we definitively recommend them spending a day in Saint-Emilion, a charming medieval village surrounded by beautiful wineries.

We recommend visiting a maximum of 2 wineries per day as a tour lasts between one hour and one and a half hours.

Please kindly note that wineries require reservation to be visited and do not accept visitors only for wine tastings. It is imperative to do the full tour of the property with the guide if you wish to taste their wines.
