Danube River Cruise Advisor

Most travelers who contact us about a Danube River cruise have already done some research. They know they want to cruise the Danube, have a list of cities they would like to visit, or have narrowed their choices to a few cruise lines.

The harder part is deciding which cruise line, itinerary, ship, cabin, sailing date, and excursions actually fit the way you want to travel.

That is where a Danube River Cruise Advisor can help.

At Rosedale Travel, we help clients compare Danube river cruises across Tauck, Viking, AmaWaterways, and Avalon, then coordinate the rest of the trip around the sailing. That can include flights, pre- and post-cruise hotels, transfers, excursions, dining, and other arrangements that need to work together.

We are a Virtuoso member agency and a Certified Tauck Advisor, and Danube river cruising is one of the areas we book most often.

Ready to compare your Danube cruise options? Start with a 30-minute consultation and tell us what you are considering.

I recently had the experience of my daughter’s high school graduation trip to Croatia planned by Rachel Baumgartner. It was amazing!! We had another family along with us and Rachel took so much time learning what was important to us, researching extensively the best fit for us regarding hotels, transfers, restaurants, excursions and more! The entire trip was seamless!! And during the trip she checked in on us and was quick to respond with any questions we had. I highly recommend Rachel and Rosedale Travel!!!

Laura Spagnolo recently (fall 2025) planned an absolutely unforgettable group trip to Argentina. I travel frequently and this is the first trip I did not have to do or think about a single piece of the itinerary. I took my 12 yr old son, along with a few other families, on a planned group trip to Buenos Aires and iguazu falls. Starting with the preparation for the visit and Everything from city excursions, to soccer matches and stadium tours, to art centers, dinners out, fantastic hotels, experiencing the falls, and the ease with transfers and domestic flights ...it could NOT have been better. I will not plan trips without Rosedale travel from now on!! Thank you!

Rosedale travel was able to hook me up with a last minute excellent trip to Iceland. Kirsten worked with me to make sure everything we wanted to do got done, and even suggested some things I’d never heard of which I'm glad we did! I’ll be using Rosedale travel again in the near future!

Five stars aren't enough for Rachel! She delivered the most amazing and stress-free adventure for our son's 30th birthday trip to Moab! She helped with flights and booked a fantastic place to stay, but the lineup of incredible adventures she put together was the highlight. Our adventure loving son had a blast! Before we left, a physical folder with all our documents was delivered, and every detail was also available on a convenient app. Rachel was available for all our questions during planning and checked in with us during and after our trip! I will be using her services again and recommending her to everyone I know.

Not only is Rachel Baumgartner the best travel advisor I've ever had the pleasure of working with, but she is also one of the best individuals I have ever had the pleasure of working with. From start to finish, there is not a single thing she missed. She went above and beyond on everything possible and exceeded my expectations. She helped me plan my bachelorette, my fiance's bachelor party, and our honeymoon. I cannot recommend Rachel enough to anyone looking to plan travel. I am forever grateful to her for helping me to plan the trip of my dreams!

Kirsten at Rosedale planned our family trip to Greece. It was our first time using a travel agent but definitely won't be our last! Kirsten made the trip to easy and stress free! She listened to all our "wants" and built the perfect vacation for our family of 5. The excursions she booked were amazing - both were great companies to explore Greece with and we learned so much from our guides. The hotels and resorts she booked for us were beautiful properites and the extra perks (like welcome baskets and food vouchers) that we got from booking with Kirsten were a wonderful bonus! Don't hesitate to use Kirsten to design your next vacation - you will be so glad you did!

Kirstin was amazing! My sister and I had 17 tabs open trying to figure out connecting flights and/or trains in Europe to no avail! I reached out to her for the first time hoping that she could somehow solve this mystery and she did just that! She made it all work seamlessly. Going forward, I will never NOT travel without first consulting her. She had tips, ideas, suggestions, and solutions! She was easy to communicate with, affable, responsive to our desires and vision and followed through on everything she said. She asked for feedback afterwards, and I shared the one thing I wished had happened. I wish we had gotten the itinerary in paper prior to departure. She and I miscommunicated about that as I had handled all stateside flights prior to international flights so she didn't know our actual date of departure. Highly recommend.

KIrsten Billhardt of Rosedale Travel did a fabulous job of planning and organizing our first trip to Scandinavia; she even figured out a way to work in a side trip to northern Germany within a 11-day (including flights) timeframe! It's been five months since we went, and we're still raving about the variety of experiences including outdoor excursions, city explorations, historical site and special attraction visits, different transportation modes, and delicious food (we loved the huge hotel breakfast buffets). We highly recommend working with Kirsten!

What Does a Danube River Cruise Advisor Actually Do?

Choosing a Danube cruise is not simply a matter of finding a ship with the right dates.

Two cruises can visit many of the same destinations while offering very different experiences, inclusions, cabin layouts, excursion programs, passenger profiles, and overall costs.

We help you evaluate the differences before you make a booking.

We can help you decide.

You do not have to arrive with all of those decisions made. That is part of what we help with.

01

Which Danube cruise line fits your priorities

02

Which itinerary includes the destinations you care about

03

Whether Tauck, Viking, AmaWaterways, or Avalon is the better match

04

Whether to travel in spring, summer, fall, or during the Christmas market season

05

Whether a 7-night, 8-night, or longer sailing makes sense

06

Which sailing date works best for your travel plans

07

Which ship and cabin category make sense for your budget

08

Which excursions are included and which cost extra

09

Whether a balcony, French balcony, or another cabin configuration is worth the difference

10

What the actual trip cost will look like after considering included and additional expenses

11

How to coordinate flights, hotels, transfers, and the cruise schedule

12

Where to spend additional time before or after the cruise

13

Whether an active, moderate, or more relaxed excursion program suits you

Is a Danube River Cruise Right for Your Trip?

The Danube is a strong choice for travelers who want to combine several European destinations without changing hotels every few nights.

Many Danube itineraries connect destinations in Germany, Austria, Slovakia, and Hungary. Depending on the sailing, you may visit places such as Passau, Regensburg, Melk, Dürnstein, Vienna, Bratislava, and Budapest.

A typical itinerary can give you several days of city visits, smaller historic towns, cultural excursions, and time on the river between ports.

The better question, however, is not simply whether the Danube is a good river to cruise.

It is whether the specific Danube itinerary is right for you.

We look at the pace of the sailing, time in port, overnight stays, included excursions, ship, cabin, cruise line, and the way the itinerary fits with your flights and any pre- or post-cruise plans.

Which Travelers Benefit Most From a Danube Cruise Advisor?

Our clients often fall into a few common groups.

First-time river cruisers

You may know you want to try European river cruising but have no idea how Tauck compares with Viking, AmaWaterways, or Avalon.

We explain the practical differences so you can make a decision based on how you actually travel.

Experienced travelers comparing cruise lines

You may already have two or three cruise lines in mind and need an honest comparison.

We can look beyond the advertised fare and compare inclusions, excursions, drinks, gratuities, cabin design, ship style, activity level, and overall value.

Couples planning a special trip

If the cruise is part of a larger European vacation, the sailing needs to fit the rest of the trip.

We can coordinate pre- and post-cruise stays, flights, transfers, and other arrangements around the cruise.

Active travelers

AmaWaterways and certain Danube itineraries may appeal to travelers who want cycling, hiking, walking tours, or other active options.

We help determine whether the activity level of a particular sailing matches what you have in mind.

Travelers who want fewer decisions

Some clients want to compare the options once and then have an advisor manage the details.

We can handle the booking and continue monitoring the trip through departure.

Comparing Danube River Cruise Lines

There is no single cruise line that is right for every traveler.

The right choice depends on what you value, what you want included, how active you want to be, the type of ship and cabin you prefer, and how much you want handled in advance.

Cruise lineMay be worth considering if you value
TauckA highly inclusive approach, coordinated service, included excursions, and distinctive cultural experiences on selected itineraries.
VikingAdults-only cruising, Scandinavian-inspired ship design, a straightforward excursion structure, and a broad selection of sailing dates.
AmaWaterwaysCulinary experiences, active excursion options on selected sailings, and twin-balcony stateroom configurations on applicable ships.
Avalon WaterwaysSuite-focused cabin design, Panorama Suites with open-air balcony configurations, and another option to compare across itineraries and price points.
ScenicA luxury experience centered on suite accommodation, butler service, and an extensive set of inclusions, with details that should be checked for the specific sailing.
Uniworld Boutique River CruisesDistinctive ship interiors, a boutique-hotel atmosphere, personalized service, and extensive inclusions, subject to the specific itinerary and fare.

These descriptions are starting points, not recommendations.

Your best option depends on the particular sailing and what matters most to you.

Tauck on the Danube

Tauck is often a strong fit for travelers who want a high level of inclusions and prefer to have many trip details handled within one program.

Depending on the itinerary, Tauck can include excursions, meals, drinks, gratuities, and special events that other cruise lines may charge separately for.

Tauck also operates exclusive events and experiences on selected itineraries.

As a Certified Tauck Advisor, we can help you understand what is included on your specific sailing and whether Tauck’s approach matches your expectations.

For new-to-Tauck clients, applicable bookings may also qualify for a complimentary pre- or post-cruise hotel night through our Certified Tauck Advisor relationship.

Viking on the Danube

Viking is a popular option for travelers who appreciate its Scandinavian-inspired ship design, adults-only environment, and straightforward approach to river cruising.

Viking generally includes one shore excursion in each port, while additional excursions can be available at an additional cost.

The line also offers a broad range of sailing dates, which can make it useful when your schedule is less flexible.

We can compare Viking’s total inclusions and excursion structure with other lines so you can determine whether its pricing represents the right value for your trip.

AmaWaterways on the Danube

AmaWaterways can be a strong choice for travelers who want more opportunities for active excursions.

Depending on the itinerary, options can include cycling, hiking, walking tours, and other activities.

AmaWaterways is also known for its twin-balcony stateroom configurations and culinary programming.

If staying active during your cruise is important, we can compare the excursion options on specific Danube sailings rather than relying only on the general cruise-line description.

Avalon on the Danube

Avalon can appeal to travelers who place a high priority on cabin design and want a different approach to the traditional river cruise stateroom.

Its Panorama Suites feature large open-air balcony configurations that allow the cabin to feel more connected to the river while sailing.

For travelers taking their first river cruise or comparing several price points, Avalon can also be worth considering.

We can compare the cabin, itinerary, inclusions, and total cost against the alternatives you are considering.

Scenic on the Danube

Scenic is worth considering if you want a luxury river cruise with suite-focused accommodation, butler service, and a broad range of inclusions.

The client’s brand brief highlights Scenic’s all-inclusive approach, curated cultural experiences, and options for exploring independently. Features described in the brief include shore excursions, most beverages, Wi-Fi, gratuities, e-bikes, and a Tailormade GPS app, with exclusions and availability dependent on the applicable terms and sailing.

Scenic may appeal to travelers who value comfort and service but do not want every day to feel rigidly scheduled. The key is to check how the itinerary balances organized experiences with independent time ashore.

We can compare Scenic’s specific inclusions, cabin options, excursions, and itinerary with other Danube sailings so you can decide whether the experience fits your travel style.

Uniworld on the Danube

Uniworld Boutique River Cruises may appeal to travelers who want their ship to feel like a distinctive boutique hotel as well as a comfortable base for exploring Europe.

The client’s brand brief emphasizes individually designed ships, rich interiors, original art, handcrafted furnishings, personalized service, and destination-inspired dining. It also describes fares that include beverages, gratuities, shore excursions, and Wi-Fi, subject to the terms of the particular sailing.

Uniworld is worth comparing if ship atmosphere and design matter as much to you as the destinations themselves. Its approach may also suit travelers who value having many trip components included in the fare instead of managing numerous additional purchases.

We can review the inclusions and onboard experience for your chosen departure and compare them with Tauck, Scenic, and other relevant options. The best fit depends on what you value most, not simply which line describes itself as luxury.

How to Choose the Right Danube River Cruise Itinerary

The best Danube river cruise is not determined by the cruise line alone. The route, sailing length, time in port, and opportunities to explore can shape your experience just as much as the ship.

Start with the places you most want to experience

Some travelers are drawn to major cities such as Vienna and Budapest. Others are more interested in smaller historic towns, the landscapes of the Wachau Valley, local food and wine, or the Christmas markets available on seasonal departures. Check how much time your itinerary allows in the destinations that matter most to you.

Consider the pace of the sailing

Compare the number of included excursions, the amount of independent time, and the types of activities offered. If you enjoy cycling or hiking, look closely at the options on your specific departure. If you prefer a slower pace, consider how much walking is involved and whether suitable alternatives are available.

Plan the days around the cruise

Your departure and arrival cities may be worth exploring before or after the sailing. Consider flight schedules, hotel nights, transfers, and whether you want to extend your trip in another European destination.

Look at the full itinerary, not just the port list

Two sailings may name many of the same destinations but differ in overnight stays, excursion choices, departure dates, and time available ashore. Those details can influence how relaxed or activity-filled the trip feels.

We help you compare the itinerary and the cruise line together, so the sailing fits the experience you want, not just the list of places on the brochure.

What Does a Danube River Cruise Really Cost?

The advertised cruise fare is only part of the comparison.

A lower starting price does not necessarily mean a lower total trip cost if another cruise line includes items that you would otherwise purchase separately.

When comparing Danube cruises, we look at.

For example, a cruise with a lower initial fare may require you to budget separately for gratuities, additional excursions, or other items that another line includes.

We help you compare the total cost and what you receive for it, not just the headline cruise price.

The details vary by cruise line, ship, itinerary, and fare. An all-inclusive description should not be taken to mean that every possible expense is covered.

We help you make an apples-to-apples comparison so you can understand what you are paying for, which extras may matter to you, and how the sailing fits within your overall travel budget.

Choosing the Right Danube Itinerary

Danube itineraries can look similar on paper while producing very different trips.

One sailing may give you more time in Vienna. Another may emphasize smaller towns in the Wachau Valley. Some itineraries include longer stays or overnight time in major cities.

When comparing itineraries, we look at:

If you already have a cruise itinerary saved, send it to us. We can help you evaluate what you are actually getting before you book.

Danube River Cruise Itineraries: Which Route Is Right for You?

Danube river cruises are not all the same, even when they visit many of the same cities.

Depending on the cruise line and sailing, you can find shorter itineraries focused on the classic Upper Danube, longer routes that continue into Southeast Europe, Christmas market sailings, and itineraries that combine the Danube with the Main or Rhine.

The cruise line names these itineraries differently, and the exact route, ship, sailing date, and inclusions can change from season to season.

Instead of choosing a cruise based only on its name, we help you compare where the itinerary goes, how long you spend there, what is included, and whether the route fits the rest of your travel plans.

01

Longer Danube Itineraries

If seven nights feels too short, longer Danube itineraries can provide additional time and a broader geographic range.

Some sailings extend beyond the classic Germany–Austria–Slovakia–Hungary route and continue toward Serbia, Croatia, Bulgaria, or Romania.

Longer itineraries can be a good fit if you have already visited Vienna or Budapest, want to see more of Southeast Europe, or simply have enough vacation time for a longer cruise.

They also require a different comparison. More nights and more countries do not automatically mean a better itinerary for every traveler.

02

Lower Danube and Southeast Europe

The Danube continues beyond Budapest, and some river cruises follow the river into Southeast Europe.

Depending on the itinerary, you may visit destinations in Serbia, Croatia, Romania, Bulgaria, and Hungary.

These cruises can provide a substantially different experience from the classic Upper Danube routes.

If you have already taken a traditional Danube cruise, a lower-Danube itinerary may be worth considering. If this is your first European river cruise and Vienna, Salzburg-area travel, and Budapest are your priorities, we may recommend comparing the classic routes first.

03

Danube Cruises Combined With Other Rivers

Some longer European itineraries combine the Danube with the Main and Rhine Rivers, allowing travelers to connect Central Europe with destinations farther west.

These itineraries can be appealing if your goal is to see more of Europe on one cruise rather than focus exclusively on the Danube.

The tradeoff is time.

A longer itinerary may include more destinations, but you may have less time in individual cities than you would on a shorter trip with a narrower geographic focus.

We can help you decide whether the additional destinations are worth the additional nights.

04

Danube Christmas Market Cruises

Christmas market cruises are among the most popular seasonal ways to travel the Danube.

These sailings typically operate during the holiday season and may include cities such as Vienna, Bratislava, Budapest, and destinations in Germany and the Wachau Valley, depending on the itinerary.

The cruise line matters particularly during this season because the included excursions, market visits, schedule, and overall holiday programming can differ.

If Christmas markets are the main reason you want to cruise the Danube, we recommend choosing the itinerary around the markets and dates you care about rather than simply selecting the first available December sailing.

05

Classic 7-Night Danube Itineraries

For a first Danube river cruise, a 7-night itinerary is often a practical starting point. Many classic sailings connect destinations in Germany, Austria, Slovakia, and Hungary, with routes between cities such as Passau or Vilshofen and Budapest, depending on the cruise line and sailing.

You may encounter ports and excursions involving:

  • Passau
  • Regensburg
  • The Wachau Valley
  • Melk
  • Dürnstein
  • Vienna
  • Bratislava
  • Budapest

The exact port sequence varies by cruise line and itinerary.

This type of cruise can work particularly well if your priority is seeing several of the best-known Danube destinations without committing to a two-week sailing.

06

Special-Interest Danube Itineraries

Cruise lines also offer Danube sailings built around particular interests or themes.

Depending on the year and cruise line, you may find itineraries or departures focused on:

  • Wine
  • Music
  • Food and culinary experiences
  • Cycling
  • Hiking
  • Wellness
  • Christmas markets
  • Seasonal events

These departures can be worth considering when a particular interest is central to your trip.

The important question is whether the special programming adds value for you, rather than simply choosing a sailing because it carries a special-interest label.

Which Danube Itinerary Should You Choose?

There is no single Danube itinerary that is best for everyone.

We look at what you want to see and how you want to travel before recommending a route.

If this is your first river cruise

A classic 7-night itinerary can provide a practical introduction to the Danube and its major destinations.

If Vienna and Budapest are your priorities

We focus on itineraries that give you meaningful time in both cities rather than choosing based only on the total number of ports.

If you have already cruised the Upper Danube

A longer or lower-Danube itinerary may provide a different route and additional countries.

If Christmas markets are the priority

We compare the specific holiday itinerary, market locations, dates, and included excursions.

If you want an active vacation

We look at the cycling, hiking, and walking options available on the specific sailing.

If you want a longer European vacation

We consider whether a longer river itinerary makes sense or whether you would have a better trip by adding independent travel before or after a shorter cruise.

Which Cruise Lines Offer Danube Itineraries?

AmaWaterways, Viking, Tauck, Scenic, Uniworld and Avalon all offer Danube river cruises, but their itineraries are not interchangeable.

They may visit many of the same destinations while differing in:

Cruise lines also change their schedules and itinerary offerings from year to year.

That is why we do not recommend choosing a Danube cruise simply from a static list of itinerary names.

We compare the specific sailing available for your dates and look at what you are actually receiving for the price.

Why We Don't Simply Give You a List of Danube Cruises

You can already find hundreds of Danube sailing options directly from the cruise lines.

The difficult part is deciding which one deserves your money.

A cruise that looks less expensive may include fewer excursions or other services. A longer itinerary may visit more countries but leave less time in the destinations that matter most to you. A particular cabin may cost considerably more without providing a benefit you will use.

Our role is to help you make those decisions.

If you have already found an AmaWaterways, Viking, Tauck, or Avalon sailing you like, send it to us.

If you are comparing several options, we can put them side by side and help you understand the differences.

If you do not know which itinerary to choose, we start with what you want from the trip and work from there.

The goal is not to give you the longest list of Danube cruises. It is to help you choose the right one.

Planning guide

The details that shape the experience

Choosing the Best Time for a Danube Cruise

  • Spring – April and May can appeal to travelers who prefer milder temperatures and spring scenery.
  • Summer – June through August generally offers longer daylight hours and a busy European travel season. It can be a good fit if your travel dates are tied to summer vacation schedules.
  • Fall – September and October can offer a different pace and seasonal atmosphere. For travelers who prefer to avoid the height of summer, fall is often worth considering.
  • Christmas Markets – Danube Christmas market cruises operate during the holiday season and can be particularly popular with travelers who want the cruise to center around European Christmas markets.

For popular holiday sailings, we recommend planning well in advance. Depending on the cruise line and sailing, 12–18 months can be a useful planning window.

We can help you compare dates based on weather preferences, availability, pricing, holidays, and the type of trip you want.

Selecting the Right Ship

The ship is your hotel for the duration of the cruise, so it deserves as much attention as the itinerary.

We can help you compare:

  • Ship size and layout
  • Cabin location
  • Public spaces
  • Dining options
  • Outdoor areas
  • Fitness and wellness facilities
  • Entertainment
  • Ship age and design
  • Cabin categories
  • Balcony configurations
  • Accessibility considerations

Two ships from the same cruise line can also feel different depending on the design, age, itinerary, and cabin inventory.

If you have already found a ship you like, we can review it with you rather than automatically directing you to another option.

Choosing the Right Cabin

Cabin selection is one of the decisions where professional advice can make a meaningful difference.

We consider:

  • Cabin size
  • Location on the ship
  • Deck
  • Balcony type
  • Window configuration
  • Bed configuration
  • Elevator proximity
  • Noise considerations
  • Accessibility
  • Price difference between categories

A higher-priced cabin is not automatically the right cabin.

Sometimes the additional cost is worthwhile. Sometimes a lower category gives you the better value based on how you plan to use the room.

We help you understand what you are paying for before choosing.

Planning Danube Shore Excursions

Excursions are a major part of a river cruise, but the best excursion program depends on the traveler.

You may prefer:

  • Historic and cultural tours
  • Museums
  • Food and wine
  • Walking tours
  • Cycling
  • Hiking
  • Architecture
  • Local experiences
  • Smaller-group excursions
  • A slower day with time on your own

The cruise line, itinerary, and cabin are only part of the decision.

We can help you compare the included excursions with optional choices and identify where an itinerary gives you the kind of activities you actually want.

Flights, Hotels, and Transfers Before and After Your Cruise

Your cruise does not begin and end at the ship.

Flights, hotel nights, transfers, and arrival timing all affect how the trip works.

We can help coordinate:

We generally recommend allowing enough time to arrive before your cruise rather than scheduling an international flight to land immediately before embarkation.

That gives you more room if a flight is delayed and lets you begin the cruise without rushing to the ship.

What Happens After You Book?

Our role does not end when the reservation is confirmed.

Between booking and departure, we can monitor the trip and help with details such as:

Travel plans can also change.

If a flight is delayed, a transfer does not go as planned, or another issue affects the itinerary, having an advisor who knows the booking and can help coordinate the next steps can make a significant difference.

We Compare Multiple Cruise Lines

We do not recommend a cruise line simply because it is the one we sell most often. The goal is to match the cruise to your priorities.

We Stay Involved

From the initial comparison through departure, you have an advisor who understands the booking, the itinerary, and the arrangements surrounding the cruise.

How Our Danube Cruise Planning Process Works

Listen

01

We start with a 30-minute consultation to understand your travel dates, budget, destinations, previous cruise experience, activity level, cabin preferences, and the people traveling with you.

We also discuss what matters most to you, including any mobility considerations, dietary needs, or concerns about the logistics of international travel.

Narrow the Options

02

We compare the cruise lines, ships, itineraries, cabin categories, excursions, and inclusions that fit your priorities.

You do not have to research every available Danube sailing yourself.

Evolve

03

We explain why a particular itinerary may suit you, what the cruise fare includes, which cabin categories are worth considering, and what trade-offs you should know about. We can also identify what to add before or after the cruise.

Coordinate the Details

04

When travel begins, you have a travel advisor who knows your arrangements and can help when something needs to be addressed.

When should I book a Danube river cruise?

For many regular Danube sailings, planning approximately 9–12 months ahead can give you a useful choice of dates, cabins, and itineraries. Popular Christmas market departures and other high-demand sailings may require 12–18 months of advance planning.

Earlier planning is particularly helpful if you want a specific cabin category, need to travel on fixed dates, or want to add hotel stays and other destinations before or after the cruise.

Availability and booking conditions vary by sailing. If you already have dates or a cruise itinerary in mind, we can help you assess the options that remain available.

Frequently Asked Questions About Danube River Cruises

How many nights should I spend on a Danube river cruise?

Many Danube itineraries run for approximately 7–8 nights, although longer options are available.

The right length depends on how many destinations you want to visit and whether you plan to add time before or after the cruise.

Should I fly into the cruise departure city the day before?

In most cases, arriving at least one day before embarkation is a prudent choice for an international trip.

It gives you additional time if your flight is delayed and allows you to begin the cruise without relying on a same-day international arrival.

We can coordinate the hotel and transfer arrangements around your sailing.

Can I combine a Danube cruise with another European destination?

Yes.

Many travelers add several nights before or after their cruise in cities such as Vienna, Budapest, or another European destination.

The best combination depends on your cruise dates, flights, interests, and how much time you have available.

When should I book a Danube river cruise?

For many regular sailings, planning approximately 9–12 months ahead gives you a useful selection of dates, cabins, and itineraries.

Popular Christmas market cruises and certain high-demand sailings can require 12–18 months of advance planning.

Earlier planning is particularly helpful if you want a specific cabin category or travel during a peak period.

What happens if the Danube has low water?

River water levels can affect river cruise operations.

Cruise lines have procedures for dealing with changing river conditions, but the exact response depends on the circumstances and the affected sailing.

We monitor relevant updates and help clients understand any changes that affect their itinerary.

Can a solo traveler book a Danube river cruise?

Yes.

The main considerations are cabin availability, single supplements, promotions, and the cruise line’s approach to solo travelers.

We can compare the available options and help identify the sailing that makes the most sense.

Which is better: Tauck, Viking, AmaWaterways, or Avalon?

There is no universal answer.

Tauck may make sense if you prioritize a highly inclusive program. Viking can appeal to travelers who value its ship design, adults-only environment, and broad schedule. AmaWaterways can be a strong fit for active travelers, while Avalon may appeal to travelers who place particular importance on cabin design.

We compare the specific sailing rather than choosing a line based only on its general reputation.

Do I have to know which cruise line I want before contacting Rosedale Travel?

No.

In fact, comparing cruise lines is one of the reasons clients work with us.

If you are deciding between two or three options, we can compare them based on your priorities and explain the practical differences.

Do you charge a planning fee?

Yes. Our planning fee is disclosed upfront and agreed upon before we begin the planning work.

The fee is separate from the cruise fare.
