Hurtigruten Expeditions
Expedition cruises are not about the ship itself…it’s about getting to some of the most far-flung places on the planet! Norwegian company Hurtigruten Expeditions (HX) is dedicated to taking care of adventurous, scientific-minded travelers and inspiring them with wildlife, nature, and a focus on sustainability. This is less about luxury and entertainment, with more remote destinations to explore such as the Svalbard archipelago, Greenland, Antarctica, and more. In addition to an extensive library, biological and geological equipment, and a full-fledged Science Center aboard the ship, HX is more like a “sea-based safari” rather than a traditional cruise, packed with interactive lectures and onshore excursions. In addition, the HX crew offers extensive knowledge of the history, geology, and biodiversity of the various regions.

Ama Waterways
Ama Waterways offers over 20 years worth of special river cruises in Europe, Asia, and Africa, each one curated with love (“ama”). We highly recommend treating yourself to a river cruise, especially since you only have to unpack once – the boat will be your floating hotel room taking you through different regions of multiple countries each day! Enjoy exploring wine country or stopping to sightsee for a day in the city while drifting along famous rivers such as the Danube, Rhine, and the Nile. Although river cruises are popular among older demographics, they are also a perfect option for skip-gen travel! One of the newest luxury lines we’re hearing a positive buzz about is Explora Journeys. This privately owned company started with the Aponte family’s dream to create a “unique and relaxed yacht experience” and tends to target first-time cruisers who generally stay at luxury resorts. With an elegant atmosphere, handpicked travel itineraries, and a reputation for having particularly good Wi-Fi (which is important for folks who likely need to check in on work while they are on vacation), Explora Journeys has an overall lower cost for luxury amenities.
