Nile River Cruise Advisor
Most people who contact us about Egypt already know they want to sail the Nile. What they’re less sure about is everything that comes with it: which ship or vessel style suits them, how many nights to spend on the river, whether to sail Luxor to Aswan or the reverse, how much time to give Cairo and the Pyramids of Giza, and how to fit flights, hotels, guides and transfers together without gaps.
As your Nile River Cruise Advisor, Rosedale Travel helps you work through those decisions in the right order. We start by understanding how you like to travel. Then we compare Nile programs from Tauck, Viking, AmaWaterways, Uniworld, Avalon, Scenic and National Geographic–Lindblad Expeditions, and plan the wider Egypt itinerary around the sailing you choose. The cruise is one part of the trip. We help you get the whole trip right.
Rosedale Travel is a boutique, Virtuoso member agency based in Austin, Texas, and a Certified Tauck Advisor. Egypt is one of our destination specialties.

I recently had the experience of my daughter’s high school graduation trip to Croatia planned by Rachel Baumgartner. It was amazing!! We had another family along with us and Rachel took so much time learning what was important to us, researching extensively the best fit for us regarding hotels, transfers, restaurants, excursions and more! The entire trip was seamless!! And during the trip she checked in on us and was quick to respond with any questions we had. I highly recommend Rachel and Rosedale Travel!!!Posted on Google![]()

Laura Spagnolo recently (fall 2025) planned an absolutely unforgettable group trip to Argentina. I travel frequently and this is the first trip I did not have to do or think about a single piece of the itinerary. I took my 12 yr old son, along with a few other families, on a planned group trip to Buenos Aires and iguazu falls. Starting with the preparation for the visit and Everything from city excursions, to soccer matches and stadium tours, to art centers, dinners out, fantastic hotels, experiencing the falls, and the ease with transfers and domestic flights ...it could NOT have been better. I will not plan trips without Rosedale travel from now on!! Thank you!Posted on Google![]()

Rosedale travel was able to hook me up with a last minute excellent trip to Iceland. Kirsten worked with me to make sure everything we wanted to do got done, and even suggested some things I’d never heard of which I'm glad we did! I’ll be using Rosedale travel again in the near future!Posted on Google![]()

Five stars aren't enough for Rachel! She delivered the most amazing and stress-free adventure for our son's 30th birthday trip to Moab! She helped with flights and booked a fantastic place to stay, but the lineup of incredible adventures she put together was the highlight. Our adventure loving son had a blast! Before we left, a physical folder with all our documents was delivered, and every detail was also available on a convenient app. Rachel was available for all our questions during planning and checked in with us during and after our trip! I will be using her services again and recommending her to everyone I know.Posted on Google![]()

Not only is Rachel Baumgartner the best travel advisor I've ever had the pleasure of working with, but she is also one of the best individuals I have ever had the pleasure of working with. From start to finish, there is not a single thing she missed. She went above and beyond on everything possible and exceeded my expectations. She helped me plan my bachelorette, my fiance's bachelor party, and our honeymoon. I cannot recommend Rachel enough to anyone looking to plan travel. I am forever grateful to her for helping me to plan the trip of my dreams!Posted on Google![]()

Kirsten at Rosedale planned our family trip to Greece. It was our first time using a travel agent but definitely won't be our last! Kirsten made the trip to easy and stress free! She listened to all our "wants" and built the perfect vacation for our family of 5. The excursions she booked were amazing - both were great companies to explore Greece with and we learned so much from our guides. The hotels and resorts she booked for us were beautiful properites and the extra perks (like welcome baskets and food vouchers) that we got from booking with Kirsten were a wonderful bonus! Don't hesitate to use Kirsten to design your next vacation - you will be so glad you did!Posted on Google![]()

Kirstin was amazing! My sister and I had 17 tabs open trying to figure out connecting flights and/or trains in Europe to no avail! I reached out to her for the first time hoping that she could somehow solve this mystery and she did just that! She made it all work seamlessly. Going forward, I will never NOT travel without first consulting her. She had tips, ideas, suggestions, and solutions! She was easy to communicate with, affable, responsive to our desires and vision and followed through on everything she said. She asked for feedback afterwards, and I shared the one thing I wished had happened. I wish we had gotten the itinerary in paper prior to departure. She and I miscommunicated about that as I had handled all stateside flights prior to international flights so she didn't know our actual date of departure. Highly recommend.Posted on Google![]()

KIrsten Billhardt of Rosedale Travel did a fabulous job of planning and organizing our first trip to Scandinavia; she even figured out a way to work in a side trip to northern Germany within a 11-day (including flights) timeframe! It's been five months since we went, and we're still raving about the variety of experiences including outdoor excursions, city explorations, historical site and special attraction visits, different transportation modes, and delicious food (we loved the huge hotel breakfast buffets). We highly recommend working with Kirsten!Posted on Google![]()

What Does a Nile River Cruise Advisor Actually Do?
Two Nile cruises can visit the same temples and still be very different trips. The vessel, the number of guests, the cabin, the guiding, the sightseeing schedule, what’s included in the fare, and the arrangements before and after the sailing all shape the experience.
A Nile cruise travel advisor helps you compare those differences before you commit. Here are the decisions we help you make:
01
Choosing the right size of ship and style of program
Nile ships range from small vessels with around 40 guests to ships carrying about 80. Some programs are fully escorted from arrival to departure. Others give you more choice and independent time. Each gives you a different pace and atmosphere, and each suits a different kind of traveler.
02
Selecting the cruise line or operator
Operators differ in service, guiding, dining, inclusions and the type of guest they attract. We match you to options that fit your priorities instead of starting with whichever cruise is easiest to sell.
03
Deciding how many nights to spend on the river
Among the lines we represent, Nile cruises range from about four nights (Tauck, Avalon, Scenic) to seven or eight (Viking, AmaWaterways, Uniworld), usually packaged with hotel nights in Cairo. More time on the Nile means a slower pace and more time at each site.
04
Choosing a direction: Luxor to Aswan or Aswan to Luxor
The direction affects your arrival and departure cities, your domestic flights, and how the sightseeing is spread across the sailing.
05
Picking the right time of year
October through April is generally the most comfortable window for sightseeing in Upper Egypt. Summer heat in Luxor and Aswan can make temple visits much harder going.
06
Choosing your ship and cabin category
Cabin size, deck position, windows or balcony, bed configuration and accessibility all matter on a vessel where you’ll spend several nights.
07
Understanding which excursions are included
Some fares include guided visits at each stop. Others charge for certain sites or special access. Some tombs and experiences carry separate entry fees even when a site visit is included.
08
Deciding on group or private guiding
A good Egyptologist guide makes a big difference at sites like Karnak and the Valley of the Kings. We help you decide whether the included guiding is enough or whether private guiding is worth adding for part of the trip.
09
Planning time in Cairo and Giza
Most travelers want to see the Pyramids of Giza and Cairo’s museums. We help you decide how many nights to give Cairo, and whether it works better before or after the cruise.
10
Considering Abu Simbel
Abu Simbel lies well south of Aswan. It can be added as a day excursion or an overnight, and it’s worth deciding early because it affects the shape of the itinerary.
11
Working out the true total cost
The headline fare rarely tells the full story. We look at international and domestic flights, hotels, transfers, gratuities, entry fees, visas and travel insurance together.
12
Coordinating flights, hotels and transfers
A Nile cruise usually involves an international flight into Cairo, a domestic flight to Luxor or Aswan, and transfers between airports, hotels and the vessel. We plan these so the connections make sense.
Is a Nile River Cruise Right for Your Trip?
For many travelers, sailing the Nile is the most practical way to see Upper Egypt. You unpack once, and the vessel carries you between Luxor and Aswan, stopping close to the major temples along the way. The river does the work that would otherwise mean repeated hotel changes and road transfers.
The classic route between Luxor and Aswan typically includes:
Luxor
Karnak Temple, Luxor Temple and the West Bank, including the Valley of the Kings
Edfu
The Temple of Horus, one of the best-preserved temples in Egypt
Kom Ombo
A riverside temple dedicated to Sobek and Haroeris
Aswan
Philae Temple and the starting point for a visit to Abu Simbel
Whether a Nile cruise suits you depends on the specific sailing: the pace, how long you spend at each site, the vessel, the cabin, the guiding, and how it connects to the rest of your time in Egypt. Those are the things we look at with you.
Which Travelers Benefit Most From a Nile Cruise Advisor?
First-time visitors to Egypt
Egypt is a bigger planning exercise than most European river cruises. There are international and domestic flights, Cairo and Giza, visa requirements, and many sites to fit in. An advisor helps you put these in a sensible order.
History and culture enthusiasts
If ancient Egypt is the reason for the trip, the quality of the guiding and the time at each site matter more than anything else. We look for itineraries that give the major sites proper time, and we help you decide where private guiding is worth it.
Couples planning a milestone trip
Anniversaries and significant birthdays often lead people to Egypt. We help you choose a vessel and cabin that feel right for the occasion, and we add the hotels and touches that make it feel like a celebration.
Multigenerational families and groups
Different ages and mobility levels need careful planning. We help coordinate multiple cabins, private excursions where useful, and a pace that works for everyone.
Experienced travelers who want something different
If you’ve cruised before and want something more intimate, a smaller ship or an expert-led program may suit you better. We help you compare the options honestly, including the trade-offs.
Solo travelers
River cruising is an easy way to travel solo, because shared dining and small-group excursions make it simple to meet fellow travelers. Single supplements vary a great deal by line, so we look at them in detail before recommending a sailing.

Comparing Nile River Cruise Lines
There’s no single best Nile cruise line. The right choice depends on what matters most to you. Most of these lines package the cruise with hotel nights in Cairo, guided touring at Giza and domestic flights, so you’re comparing a whole Egypt program, not just a ship. Here’s a starting point.
| Cruise line | Nile program and vessel | May be worth considering if you value |
| Tauck | Egypt: Jewels of the Nile: a 10-day journey with a 4-night cruise aboard the Oberoi Philae or Oberoi Zahra | Everything handled, inclusive pricing, a Tauck Director throughout and Tauck Exclusive access |
| Viking | Pharaohs & Pyramids: 8 nights round trip from Luxor on Viking’s own Nile ships (82 guests), plus Cairo | A longer time on the river, a polished program and familiar Viking standards |
| AmaWaterways | Secrets of Egypt & the Nile: 7 nights round trip from Luxor plus 4 nights in Cairo, aboard AmaLilia, AmaDahlia or AmaNubia | A full week on the Nile, Egyptologist-led excursions and a modern ship with a pool |
| Uniworld | Splendors of Egypt & the Nile: a 7-night cruise aboard the S.S. Sphinx plus Cairo hotel nights | Boutique-hotel design, French balconies in every stateroom and all-inclusive simplicity |
| Avalon Waterways | Taste of Egypt: a 4-night Luxor–Aswan cruise aboard the MS Farah plus Cairo | Strong value, choice in the included activities and a shorter, efficient program |
| Scenic | Egypt journeys with a 4-night cruise aboard the Sanctuary Sun Boat III, chartered exclusively for Scenic guests | A small number of guests, Scenic Freechoice excursions and Enrich experiences |
| National Geographic–Lindblad Expeditions | Passage Through Egypt: a 6-night cruise aboard the Oberoi Philae, with Egyptologists and a certified photo instructor | Learning, expert-led context and photography |
These are starting points, not final recommendations. Programs, ships and inclusions change from season to season, and we confirm current details for your dates.
Tauck on the Nile
Tauck’s Egypt journey pairs a 4-night Nile cruise aboard one of Oberoi’s small, highly regarded vessels with time in Cairo and Aswan. Tauck Exclusive experiences include an after-hours private visit to the Valley of the Kings and Tutankhamun’s tomb. A Tauck Director travels with the group throughout, and pricing covers much more than most programs.
Tauck Directors are highly trained, salaried staff rather than commission-based guides. Tauck suits travelers who hate surprises and want every detail handled.
Tauck is also the line we recommend most often. As a Certified Tauck Advisor, Rosedale Travel can offer new-to-Tauck guests a complimentary pre- or post-cruise hotel night, worth 200–500 depending on the city. This isn’t available when booking directly with Tauck. Tauck is a Virtuoso partner too, and amenities such as onboard credit and a hosted cocktail reception are available on select departures.
Viking on the Nile
Viking builds, owns and operates its own fleet on the Nile. Its Pharaohs & Pyramids program includes Cairo hotel nights and an 8-night round-trip cruise from Luxor on ships carrying 82 guests. The ships share Viking’s clean Scandinavian design and include an Aquavit Terrace and a pool. Viking is adults-only (18+) and includes a guided excursion at each stop. It’s a strong fit for culturally curious adults, history buffs and those new to river cruising, and it waives the single supplement on select sailings. Viking is a Virtuoso partner, and Rosedale Travel can secure onboard credit and a Virtuoso cocktail reception on qualifying sailings.
AmaWaterways on the Nile
AmaWaterways’ Secrets of Egypt & the Nile combines a 7-night round-trip cruise from Luxor with three nights in Cairo before the cruise and one after. Egyptologists accompany guests on board and on excursions. The line’s Nile ships carry 82 guests and include suites and a pool, and its Egypt fleet is growing. This program suits travelers who want a full week on the river without rushing the major sites.
Uniworld on the Nile
Uniworld’s S.S. Sphinx carries 84 guests and reflects Uniworld’s boutique-hotel approach, with interiors inspired by Egyptian design and French balconies in every stateroom. The Splendors of Egypt & the Nile program includes a 7-night cruise, Cairo hotel nights and gratuities for crew and guides. It’s a natural fit for design-conscious travelers, especially those who have run into hidden costs elsewhere and want true all-inclusive simplicity. Rosedale Travel clients typically receive a $150 per person shipboard credit on qualifying Virtuoso sailings.
Avalon Waterways on the Nile
Avalon’s Taste of Egypt pairs time in Cairo with a 4-night Luxor–Aswan cruise aboard the MS Farah. Avalon Choice lets you select from included activities, and Abu Simbel is available as an optional excursion. Avalon suits value-conscious travelers who still want a premium experience, and it’s a good choice for first-time river cruisers. Onboard credit is frequently available, and Virtuoso amenities, including a cocktail reception and host, apply on select sailings.
Scenic on the Nile
Scenic charters the Sanctuary Sun Boat III exclusively for its guests, which keeps numbers small. Its Egypt journeys combine a 4-night Nile cruise with Cairo and Giza, plus Scenic Freechoice excursions and Scenic Enrich experiences. Scenic suits independent-minded luxury travelers who want a smaller group with plenty of choice. Rosedale Travel clients typically receive a $125 onboard credit per booking, and Virtuoso amenities, including a hosted welcome reception, apply on select sailings.
National Geographic–Lindblad Expeditions on the Nile
Lindblad’s Passage Through Egypt centers on a 6-night cruise aboard the Oberoi Philae. Egyptologists provide context at each site, and a National Geographic–Lindblad certified photo instructor travels on every departure. It’s the strongest fit for intellectually curious travelers and photographers who want a learning-led trip. Virtuoso benefits are available on select departures, and we can match you to photo-focused departures and expedition leaders.

Which Cruise Lines Offer Nile Itineraries?
Of the river cruise lines we represent, Tauck, Viking, AmaWaterways, Uniworld, Avalon Waterways, Scenic and National Geographic–Lindblad Expeditions all offer Nile programs. They differ in the number of nights on the river, ship size, how much of Cairo is included, what’s covered in the fare, whether gratuities are included, how active the program is, and price. Departures and ships also change from year to year.
That’s why we compare them against your priorities rather than handing you a list. See our River Cruise Line Comparison for a side-by-side overview of the lines. [Editor: link to comparison page]
Planning Your Nile River Cruise Itinerary
Luxor to Aswan
Sailing south from Luxor means you usually see Karnak, Luxor Temple and the Valley of the Kings early in the trip, then continue to Edfu, Kom Ombo and Aswan. It ends close to Abu Simbel, which makes an add-on easy.
Aswan to Luxor
Sailing north reverses the order and ends in Luxor. Some travelers prefer saving the West Bank and the Valley of the Kings for the end. Others choose this direction because of flight timing or availability.
The best direction for you often comes down to flights, availability and how you want the trip to build. We’ll look at both.
Luxor and the Valley of the Kings
Luxor deserves time. Karnak and Luxor Temple are on the East Bank, while the Valley of the Kings, the Valley of the Queens and the Temple of Hatshepsut are on the West Bank. Some tombs, including Tutankhamun’s, need a separate ticket. Many travelers add a night or two in Luxor before or after the sailing so they aren’t rushed.
Edfu and Kom Ombo
These two temples sit between Luxor and Aswan and are part of most conventional itineraries. Visits are usually shorter, timed around the sailing schedule.
Aswan and Philae Temple
Aswan is quieter and greener than Luxor. Philae Temple is reached by boat, and many travelers enjoy time on the water in a felucca. Aswan is also the starting point for visiting Abu Simbel.
Considering Abu Simbel
The temples at Abu Simbel are well south of Aswan near the Sudanese border. You can visit on a long day trip by road, a short flight, or by staying overnight nearby. It’s one of the most impressive sites in Egypt, and we help you decide whether it fits your timing and energy.
Extend Your Egypt Trip Beyond the Nile
Most of our Egypt clients spend time in Cairo as well as on the river. The Nile cruise is the centrepiece, but the trip usually starts or ends in Cairo.
Cairo and the Pyramids of Giza
Giza is home to the Great Pyramid and the Sphinx. Cairo adds the Grand Egyptian Museum near Giza, the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir Square, Islamic and Coptic Cairo, and the Khan el-Khalili bazaar. Two to three nights is a common starting point, depending on your interests.
Before or after the cruise?
Starting in Cairo gives you time to adjust to the time zone and puts the history in context before you sail. Ending in Cairo lets you finish with the Pyramids and fly home from the same city. We’ll help you decide based on flights and how you like a trip to flow.
Hotels, guides and transfers
We can plan hotels in Cairo, Luxor and Aswan, with Virtuoso amenities at many properties. We also arrange airport transfers, domestic flights and detailed day-by-day itineraries for the days around your cruise. Private excursions and guiding can be arranged through the cruise line or through Rosedale Travel’s network of ground operators. They’re especially useful for multigenerational groups, milestone celebrations or anyone who prefers their own pace.
Arriving early
We recommend arriving in Egypt at least one day before your cruise or land program begins. It gives you a buffer if flights are delayed and helps with jet lag, which makes a real difference on a trip that starts early in the morning.
When Is the Best Time to Take a Nile River Cruise?
October through April is generally the most comfortable time for a Nile cruise. Daytime temperatures are better suited to temple visits, and the evenings on deck are pleasant.
June through August is the hottest period. Temperatures in Luxor and Aswan can regularly exceed 40°C (104°F), which makes sightseeing much more demanding. Some travelers still go in summer for availability or price, but it needs careful planning around early starts and midday rest.
Within the cooler season, the right month depends on your heat tolerance, how you feel about crowds at the major sites, the vessel you want, and your budget. Popular sailings and holiday periods can fill early, so it helps to start planning well ahead.
What Does a Nile River Cruise Really Cost?
A lower headline fare can end up costing more once everything else is added. The key is comparing the whole trip, not just the cruise price.
When we compare Nile cruise options, we look at:
- Cruise fare and cabin category
- Meals and drinks included onboard
- Guided excursions included at each stop
- Entry fees that are charged separately, such as special tombs
- Gratuities for crew and for guides
- International flights to and from Egypt
- Domestic flights between Cairo and Luxor or Aswan
- Hotels in Cairo, Luxor or Aswan before and after the sailing
- Airport and port transfers
- Abu Simbel and other optional extensions
- Private guiding, if you want it
- Egypt visa requirements
A few things worth knowing
- International flights: none of the lines we represent include them. They're one of the first things we work through with you after booking.
- Travel insurance: not included, and strongly recommended. Comprehensive cover typically costs 5–10 percent of the total trip cost.
- Spa treatments and premium drinks: usually extra.
- Pre- and post-cruise hotels: not included unless packaged. We can add Virtuoso amenities at many properties.
- Gratuities: Tauck, Uniworld and Scenic include them. On Viking, AmaWaterways and Avalon, plan for roughly 15–20 per person per day for crew, plus tips for local guides.
A fare described as “all-inclusive” doesn’t always cover everything, and a higher price can be better value once you count what’s included. We set the details out clearly so you can compare like with like.

The Details That Shape the Experience
Selecting the right vessel
Size, layout, age of the vessel, public spaces, deck areas and accessibility all affect how a Nile cruise feels. We consider them alongside the itinerary.
Choosing the right cabin
Cabin size, deck, window or balcony, bed configuration, noise and accessibility. On a smaller vessel there may be only a few categories, so choosing well and booking early matters.
Guiding and sightseeing
Egyptologist guides bring the sites to life. We look at group sizes, how much time is spent at each site, and whether private guiding would make sense for some of your days.
Dietary and accessibility needs
We share dietary requirements and mobility considerations with the operator at booking so they’re planned for rather than left to chance.
Visa and entry requirements
Most travelers need a visa for Egypt. We flag this at booking and take care of the visa requirements with you, so nothing falls through the cracks.
Travel insurance
A Nile trip involves international flights, domestic connections, deposits and fixed cruise schedules. We recommend comprehensive travel insurance for every client and discuss suitable cover when you book.
Why We Don't Simply Give You a List of Nile Cruises
You can find dozens of Nile sailings online. The hard part isn’t finding options. It’s knowing which one fits you.
If you already have a sailing or two in mind, send them to us. We’ll review them side by side, look at what’s included, flag anything worth checking, and tell you honestly whether we think they suit what you’ve described. The goal is the right cruise, not the longest list.
What Happens After You Book?
We don’t disappear once the cruise is confirmed. Between booking and departure, we keep track of:
- Upgrades or adjustments you may want
- Dining reservations, where applicable
- Final payment due dates
- Flight schedules and any changes
- Domestic flights and transfers in Egypt
- Pre- and post-cruise hotels and guiding
- Excursion and special-access booking windows
In the weeks before you travel, we review everything and send a complete pre-departure package, with practical information on local currency, power adaptors, what to pack for temple visits and managing jet lag.
While you’re traveling, we’re available if anything comes up, such as a delay, a change or a question. We ask for a little grace on time zones, and we’ll respond as quickly as we can.
When you’re home, we follow up on any outstanding matters, such as refunds for cancelled excursions, and we’d love to hear how it went. Your preferences are saved in your file, so your next trip starts a step ahead.

We match you to the right cruise
We think of ourselves as matchmakers. We start with how you want to travel and recommend options that fit, rather than steering everyone towards the same sailing.
We plan the whole Egypt trip
The Nile cruise is one part of the journey. We coordinate Cairo and Giza, hotels, domestic and international flights, transfers, guiding and extensions such as Abu Simbel.
How Our Nile Cruise Planning Process Works
Listen
01
It starts with a call of about 30 minutes. Before we talk ships and itineraries, we want to understand you. Why is Egypt calling to you now? Have you cruised before, and what did you love or want more of? How active do you like to be? We also ask who’s traveling with you, your budget, what success looks like for this trip, and whether there are any mobility considerations, dietary needs or travel anxieties to plan around.
Recommend
02
Within a week of the call, often sooner, we come back with tailored recommendations: the cruise line, itinerary, ship, cabin category and travel insurance that fit what we heard. We explain our thinking, so you can decide with confidence. This isn’t a pile of brochures.
Refine and book
03
We go back and forth until we land on the right fit. When you’re ready, we handle the booking and confirm every detail.
Build the full trip
04
Once the sailing is confirmed, we plan flights, Cairo and any other hotel stays, domestic flights, transfers, guiding and extensions, with detailed day-by-day itineraries. We also take care of visa requirements.
Stay on top of the details
05
We reach out when dining reservations open, when shore excursions become available and when final payments are due. We also send your pre-departure package, stay available while you travel, and follow up when you return.
When Should I Book a Nile River Cruise?
For travel in the October–April season, starting about 9–12 months ahead is a comfortable window. It gives you a better choice of cabins and dates, and time to plan hotels and flights around the sailing. The smallest Nile vessels have very few cabins, and popular departures, including holiday periods, can fill earlier. If you have fixed dates or want a specific cabin, start sooner.
Availability varies by sailing, so the best first step is a quick conversation about when you’d like to go.
Frequently Asked Questions About Nile River Cruise Planning
A Nile River Cruise Advisor helps you choose a cruise that fits how you want to travel, then plans the rest of your Egypt trip around it. At Rosedale Travel, that means comparing cruise lines, ships, itineraries, cabins and inclusions, and coordinating flights, hotels, transfers, guiding and extensions such as Cairo and Abu Simbel. We stay involved before, during and after the trip.
A cruise operator sells its own sailings. An advisor helps you compare options and plan the whole trip. Egypt involves international and domestic flights, Cairo, guiding and visa requirements alongside the cruise itself. We coordinate all of it, can add Virtuoso amenities on qualifying sailings, and remain your point of contact if anything changes.
Start with how you want to travel: the pace, the level of comfort, the size of vessel, how much guided sightseeing you want, and your budget. Then compare the itinerary, cabin, guiding and what’s included. During our consultation we ask these questions and recommend options that fit.
It depends on what you value. Tauck suits travelers who want everything handled, with exclusive access. Viking and AmaWaterways offer longer time on the river. Uniworld offers boutique design and all-inclusive pricing. Avalon, Scenic and Lindblad each fill their own niche: value, small groups with choice, and expert-led learning. We compare them against your priorities in a 30-minute call.
Yes. The Nile ships we work with range from about 34–44 guests (Scenic’s charter and the Oberoi vessels used by Tauck and Lindblad) to about 80 (Viking, AmaWaterways and Uniworld). Smaller ships feel more intimate. Larger ones usually offer more cabin choice and onboard space, such as a pool. Neither is better in itself. It depends on the experience you want.
It varies by line. Tauck, Avalon and Scenic programs include about four nights on the river, Lindblad about six, and Viking, AmaWaterways and Uniworld seven or eight, usually alongside hotel nights in Cairo. Many travelers also add nights in Luxor, Aswan or Cairo so the trip doesn’t feel rushed. We help you find the right balance.
Most cruises sail between Luxor and Aswan in either direction, stopping at Edfu and Kom Ombo. Luxor gives access to Karnak, Luxor Temple and the Valley of the Kings, and Aswan to Philae Temple and Abu Simbel.
October through April is generally the most comfortable time. June through August is the hottest period, when temperatures in Luxor and Aswan can exceed 40°C (104°F).
Yes, and most of our Egypt clients do. We plan Cairo hotel nights, guided touring at Giza and the museums, and the domestic flights connecting Cairo with Luxor or Aswan, before or after your cruise.
It depends on the operator and package. Many include accommodation, meals and guided visits at each stop. Gratuities, drinks, certain entry fees, flights, hotels and insurance may be extra. We set out the inclusions clearly so you can compare options fairly.
Yes. Beyond the cruise, we plan international and domestic flights, hotels, transfers, private guiding, extensions such as Abu Simbel, travel insurance and visa guidance.
Yes, and river cruising suits solo travelers well. Single supplements vary by line. Viking waives the single supplement on select sailings. On its river cruises, Tauck waives it for lead-in cabins, and we’ll confirm what applies to its Egypt departures. Other lines charge a supplement ranging from 25 to 100 percent of the per-person fare. We look at these closely before recommending a sailing.
It depends on the line. Viking doesn’t accept guests under 18. Other lines accommodate children, but their programs aren’t designed specifically for them. If you’re planning a multigenerational trip, we’ll recommend the lines and departures that work best for your family.
Ships run on fixed schedules and won’t wait for a delayed flight. Without insurance, catching up with the ship can mean an unplanned overnight and an extra domestic flight, paid out of pocket. That’s why we recommend arriving at least a day early and buying comprehensive travel insurance. We’ll provide a quote that covers travel disruption.
Yes, without reservation. A Nile trip involves significant deposits, international and domestic flights, and many moving parts. A comprehensive policy should cover trip cancellation and interruption, medical evacuation, emergency medical expenses, travel delay and missed connections. It typically costs 5–10 percent of the total trip cost.
River cruising is smart casual. No line we work with requires formal attire. For Egypt, pack comfortable walking shoes for uneven temple sites, sun protection, light layers for cooler mornings and evenings, a day bag, a power adaptor, and any medications in your carry-on. Your pre-departure package covers the rest.
